THE STEVENS BROTHERS
Their lives, the times and their decoys
By Dr. Peter J. Muller & Peggy Lane Muller
Photography by Jim Edwards
This is the story of the Stevens brothers,
Harvey and George, two country boys
from Weedsport, New York, who
made some of the finest hunting decoys in
the 19th century. This book provides an historical overview
of the times, biographical information
of Harvey and George, along with Fred,
another brother who helped later in the
process, hunting on the Finger Lakes and
Long Island, where many of their decoys
were used, and a comprehensive analysis of
their carving and painting techniques, which
differentiates between the work of each
carver. Additional chapters concern the
weighting and marking of the decoys and a
discussion of the patterns used to make
them. Most importantly, it includes a
beautiful presentation of over 200 color
photographs of their finest decoys. This book will be an important addition to your library for only $75.00.
